Looking for some advise on the compatibility of using Tormek sharpening jigs with the Jet Slow Speed Wet System (JSSG-10)

This topic was discussed sometime ago - but may be outdated due to product upgrades.

It appears that some IAP members believed that there was some merit in using the Tormek Gouge Jig & the Multi Jig with the Jet System.

Anybody out there using a "mixed system" like this ?

Would appreciate any tips and/or cautions before I sell the farm to pay for this ?

Thanks

First, I have all Tormek jigs and use them with the Tormek. From what I have seen in Woodcraft I would add that the Tormek jigs are superior in workmanship to the JET jigs. The reports here on the Forum seem to favor the use of Tormek jigs with the JET device.

One of the most useful of all the accessories that Tormek makes is their newer model of the tool post adjustment for the grinding angle. I find the new one to be much quicker and far, far easier to use in setup of the angles and jig attachment depth than the original model that I believe still ships with the Tormek.

I purchased the Grizzly clone of the Tormek system for a little more than a 100.00. Fine Woodworking rated it better than the Jet, and it is compatable with all of the the Tormek jigs. I love mine and saved a ton of money.

Thanks for the reply.

I haven't yet purchased any jigs for the Jet.

Thinking of buying the Tormek jigs from Craft Supply:

. Gouge jig 175-0180
. Skew/Roughing Gouge 175-9950

Trying to aquire all the jigs suitable for my Bowl,Spindle,Detail,Roughing,Parting, and Skew tools.

Not sure if the above 2 jigs are all that I need.

This is my first real sharpening system - Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Go to Woodcraft/Rockler and get your hands on one of the Tormek instruction books. These ship with a new system so you may have to open a new box - just be sure to put it back in the box to keep everyone happy.

In the book they describe what each jig is for and how it is used. This information is also available online from Tormek, but if memory serves me correctly it is a bit of reading to get to everything. Even then it will still be an informative online visit for you.

Good luck!

I have the HF clone and use the Tormek and Jet jigs with it. The stone is only 8" instead of 10" but so far everything works fine. The one item that didn't work is the Jet add on shaped leather wheel. The arbor is a different thread size.

I'm very pleased with my $69 sharpener... shoot most of the jigs cost more than the sharpener did!
