David,
Your package arrived yesterday; we were leaving for the farm, so I haven't opened it yet.
It's stored safely and I'll open it Sunday nite when I get back.
I plan to upload photos of each individual's contribution to date this coming week.
Thank you again for being a part of this.

Hi Greg,

Shipping this years donation today, here's a pic. Now that we are into high school sports season with my son, not sure if I will get to many more, but I'll start with this 15. 5 Walnut, 5 Cherry and 5 Red Elm, all using Smitty's Creekline kit.

I mentioned this program at lunch to some of the staff in my office.

I just came back from a meeting and there is $60 on my desk   with a note that says: For Pen Parts.

Guess I will be ordering some extra kits and blanks.!

Maybe mention it around your office and see what happens.

20 Free Creeklines

Due to the generosity of Rangertrek I have 20 free creeklines to give to one or two turners for this project. Claim them here.

Thank you.
Please take a moment today in silence to think about the brave Americans who needlessly perished in Libya late last night.
Honor them for the work they've tried to do.
Pray for their families in their time of need.

Gary

Along with all these new pens we are committed to doing,I know we all have some that did not come out just right, that we can take the bottom or top off or what ever, the ones we don't want to sell sitting in the jar making dust holders,I know the big ones wont fit in the sleeve pocket, but lots of messed up pens can be two tone color or more,I know there are some where they blowed out or got a hole, I just fill them and give them away around her, nothing wrong with them, just two or three colored,it doesn't matter, the people at my sons office in the navy love every one i send them, lets all try and make the thousand mark or more before next year,I got two lathes, i am drilling on one, while turning on the other, kills two birds with one stone,GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS WHO MAKE IT SAVE FOR US

gary send me your address and i the amount for a box of blanks and i will get the money order in the mail to you next week. i have 10 more kits coming from smitty and i have used all the blanks that i got from you last time for troop pens. i will get the 20 that i have already gotten done mailed to you in the next few weeks and will get this lot of 10 done asap and get them on the way to you soon. the 10 that i have coming will make 30 pens for the troops. if i have time after the first of the year i will try to get more done but my show season is on now and i have several orders that i to get done before christmas.
thanks for doing such a good job on this project as well as the turners who have done pens for it and the vendors who have helped with the kits as well.

Todd,
They're covered.
One of our members sent a contribution to help with postal costs.
As you know, I'm not charging for the blanks themselves.
Make pens! Show our troops how much we appreciate their efforts.
Thank you.
Gary

Gary, Please put me down for a commitment of 10 pens to start. I will liekly add more, but am just getting started and do not want to over-promise on something like this. I will PM Smitty on ordering kits. If there are any blanks available please let me know, as I am just getting into turning. I cancover shipping/costs as well if there are any blanks out there.

Thanks for putting such an awesome project together,
Aaron

service pens 2013

:confused: Gary; When you have spare time would you please update the Service Pens 2013 with the number of pens received so far. I would like to know how many you have received, and if more are needed. Jim S

Jim,
I've been trying to take care of photos, counts and the like and haven't been able to make the time yet.
I'll try this weekend. I posted a "commitment" update -- roughly 550.
Have received about 150.
There is no "too much".
If I received 10,000 pens, there would still be too many deserving men and women we haven't given one to. Too many who haven't received our thanks. Too many who serve faithfully and loyally without our gratitude.
Let's show them we care!
Thank you.

I will commit to making some pens. Given my work schedule, I'm not sure how many I will get done. Any style pen, correct? I retired from the Air Force 2 yrs ago and my wife had her retirement ceremony last week (19 Sep). Loved serving and was very appreciative of all the grateful people we represented. Can't tell you how many times I would be making a run for lunch and someone would pay for my lunch. There were many other extremely thoughtful actions but the one that really sticks out is when complete strangers walk up and say "Thank you for serving". I'm still serving, in a way. I'm a civilian with the Air Force. Wife is about to be one too. My capacity of service has change but not the dedication. I am very happy and proud to be a part of this pen program. I will do my best to get as many pens made as I can. Can you give me the address to send the pens? Thank you.

Jim

Service Pens Update

Hi Gary -- - So what's the latest count? Have we beat the 400 mark from last year yet? Just curious.... thanks!!

I'm a little behind opening received packages and will have an updated count this weekend.
Commitments from contributors are far beyond the 400 mark from last year.
However, we far below the number needed to thank those who serve.

Thank you.

Hi Laurie

Happy New Year.
Slimlines work great.
Cigars work great.
And, everything in between works great!

Some say the slimline is preferred but from the reactions I've seen, all the pens are well received.

Thank you.
Gary
