Ok segmenters I have looked at this pen many times in the past and have yet to figure out how it was made. I can make a guess in that it was done in strips but this is the only photo I could find and it is hard to see even if I magnify it. This is from the old site and the turner does not come here any more. From 2015. I have a few ideas I would like to try with that design but right now it eludes me. My attempt would probably with the use of a router but that would be a feat. The other thing I thought of doing a window and building the design within that window. Open for ideas. Maybe it is more simple than my simple mind is making it out to be.

Hi John I'd imagine it's done in strips as you've said. I found this example on FB that looks similar in construction.

I would think it's done with strips. Can't tell from the photo though. Could be done with blocks, but either way, seams would be evident.
That is my point I can not see seams. I wish I could have blown it up or had a closer photo. The thing that stands out is that is a slimline pen and the design is well seen around a slimline pen. Now that is not easy. The OP did not do a thread on the pen. He just put it in his gallery. I checked his messages and there was no mention of it. I have one other place to look through and maybe can get a better picture. Will check.

He also made this pen. He would have been a great segmenter here.

That one I believe I can see the strip at the center of the cross.

That's interesting, John....especially on a Slimline.
The pattern in the top photograph has 7 'strips' lengthwise but also 7 'strips' in height...and the pattern does not continue all around the barrel.

One other possibility is a CNC cutting and segmenting. There were CNC cuts way before that. With black, lines would not be noticeable and micro spaces also would not be noticeable.
