Does anyone have any experience using the Rhodium Pen Pal Plating system from Caswell Electroplating?

but Caswell is a known name in plating equipment. You need to be sure
you understand plating before buying the equipment and solutions. Not all
metals plate over all others.. you'll sometimes need an intermediate metal
before your final plating. That needs to be figured into your costs.
There are other pen units (non disposable) that you can get .. or perhaps
you can even build one yourself. The biggest cost though is in the plating
solutions.

Thanks NewLondon. I have ZERO experience with plating. Just happened to run across the Caswell site and so I thought I would ask the question. Do you have any specifics on the non-disposable units you mentioned (manufacturer, web site link, etc)?
I've been saving my pennies for ages to get stuff from this UK Company
All I need is to do a job nearby so I can pop in and look before I buy:biggrin:

many of the plating solutions are cyanide based, so be careful.
Rhodium usually will only plate on Gold, Platinum, Nickel or Fine Silver.

I was just going to suggest Rio Grande too. But hit the search engines
and you'll get more info than you can handle.
As for the fumes, I'm glad someone mentioned it.. cyanide fumes aren't
anything to mess around with. And you'll also have to think about effluent
disposal.
I recall seeing a silver spray that would give you a good base coat to plate
over. That could save some plating steps, but I think it was around $200
for an small can. (8 ounce?)
Come to think of it, maybe the disposable pen isn't such a bad idea if you're
just starting.. :redface:
