New Model Fountain Pen

Greetings everyone,

It has been a while since I posted any pens, so I thought I would share my latest work. After working on a few prototypes, I decided to combine a lot of firsts for me in this pen. It is a dedicated eye dropper design with four port hole ink windows in the body. I used ¼" acrylic rod which I threaded using a ¼" x 40 tap and die, and glue the acrylic into the holes using clear epoxy.

The hidden clip is also a first for me. I milled the slot using a shop made milling jig on my drill press. The clip is fastened to a threaded anchor that is secure inside the top of the cap. I casted both the pen blank and clip in my shop, so basically everything except the nib is made from scratch.

Here are some of the basic specs:


Capped length: 6"
Cap Diameter: 16mm
Body Diameter: 16mm
Thread Diameter: 14mm (triple start)
Nib: Jowo Steel #6

That's beautiful work all around. I really like that clip, too. The "portholes" don't do anything for me, but I'm still very impressed with the construction of them.

Very nice work!! How did you do the slot if you dont mind me asking? Dremel?

I used a shop made milling jig and micro end mills 1.5 mm to 1.8 mm. I bought both the compound slide table and end mill set from Amazon (see links below.) The initial setup takes a little trial and error, but once the jig is centered and you make sure the cross slide runs perpendicular to the blank, it works really well.
