Thanks for the replys I,m taking 90/94,, 83,,69 if memory serves me right just 1 day to get there 2 days there then 1 home.Any Woodcrafts Rocklers etc ? Bronners Bah Hum Bug
LOL.

There are two Woodcrafts in the Detroit area. Do a search, and find locations. I do that every time I take a trip. Sometimes it works on the trip I am taking and sometimes not. We also have a Woodcraft in Grand Rapids but that would be out of the way. There is also a Johnsons work bench in Charlotte, south of Lansing. We had a Rocklers in Grand Rapids but it closed. Maybe there are more near your trip. Have fun.

The Rockers and Woodcraftr are out of the way for Bonners in Frankenmuth. Haven't been there in a while but you should find some interesting projects that can be built from the stuff on display. There is another Christmas outlet store off of exit 83 at Joclyn rd. It is called Always Christmas( may be good for some extra Browny points as two days at Frankenmuth may be a stretch) At the same exit is great lakes crossing a big mall, there is one of those big box hunting fishing stores there.
You might try googling Frankenmuth as it is a big tourist attraction. all of the above have web sites. By the way the two big chicken places in town are owned now by the same family owned company. Last I heard was the food is still great.

I am a perks club member there, stay there a couple times a year, cant beat the Bavarian Inn all you can eat meal, though it is pricey. Don't fill up on all the fixin's though you will be so tempted it is so good. friend them on face book and you can get coupons for half off their meals( a big help at $21.95/ person).Bing your suits as thay have five pools if you stay there.
I know of no woodworking store within an hour and a half of there, Woodcraft and Rockler are about that far away. There is a antique store a couple miles south of Bronners that has a nice selection of old tools.
Bronners is awesome, too, the worlds largest Christmas store, you won't be disappointed..
Don't miss the mall at Birch Run outlets, great deals on many designer and brand names.
Have unique pizza at Tiffanys, across the street and down a block from the Bavarian Inn, still has a stand up bar with a trough.
Ifd you want more info, email me or pm me, I'll give you my phone # and you can call.

FYI - Bell Forest Prods is in the upper peninsula. Well out of your way.

There's a Woodcraft store in the west Detroit suburb of Canton. Kind of a smallish store but decent folk there. Another on the east side of Detroit - haven't been there.

I'm a regular at the Johnson's Workbench store in Charlotte, MI (just off I-69 about 20 mi west of Lansing). Excellent source for exotic woods and turning stock. Nice selection of woodworking machinery, too. Trouble with their website right now, but they're an institution there. On S Cochran St in Charlotte.

The manager at the Woodcraft in Saginaw is a serious woodcarver, but they are really nice to turners too. I haven't been in their new building yet, but they always used to have a lot of pen and project supplies and a couple of really experienced woodturners working for them. It's worth checking out. They seem to have a lot of callmakers in that area too.

Woodcraft - Ford road in Canton;
VanDyke ave (i think) in Sterling heights - better than the canton store,
Armstrong millworks - lots of wood!! in Highland - just east of 23 on route 59 family owned and operated!

:biggrin: I don't think you will have a lot of spare time on your hands. Bronners Christmas Wonderland is ( to put it in proper prospective ) over 1 1/2 football fields of Christmas ornaments in two different halls. Your poor wife will need help toteing all those shopping bags around, not to mention the trips back to the car to unload. I do think, on looking around, that you will see some interesting ideas you can use for pen turning. It's more like thinking out of the package than the box. This will be your time frame. One day getting there. 1/2 day looking through the right hall. 1/2 day looking through the left hall. This is only if you don't do anything foolish like taking time to eat, ask any questions, or go to the bathroom !! Day 3 will be spent going back to the halls to pick up the items you should have bought yesterday, and trying to remember where you saw them. Don't be dismayed by the " I sold the last one 10 minutes ago" or the " You should have been here yesterday " replys. There is always next year. One day to drive back home. Have a great time and remember those magic words. YES DEAR !! Peace to all !! Jim S

That is really the only place to get wood, but selection compared to a Wood Craft is much less. However the prices are very competitive. And Charlotte (pronounced Shar Lot) is right off I-69
Now if you want a good Man Time there is the Gilmore Car Museum and the Kalamazoo Air Zoo Gilmore's is east of Kalamazoo and you will be driving though that. as you get on I-69, Cornwell's Turkey Farm Quick pit stop for good eats I think they are open from 11am to 7pm Turkey Salad Sandwich is king.
OHH there is a B&B in Kalamazoo called Henderson Castle, it is suppose to be "Haunted" but the Chef who owns the place cooked at the White House for a time I think.

Hope I have helped you out
