When making a kitless pen, is there any way of purposely cutting and tapping threads so they line up so a cap and barrel can have patterns match up? I can't figure it out on my own. I can see where threads start and stop after the fact, but how to get them where I want them?

Thanks,

I will place the nib assembly in the barrel, then screw the cap assembly on before I press it all the way into the cap. Then I line up the grain or pattern and press it the rest of the way on.

Sorry - I should have specified this is for kitless pens - cutting and tapping my own threads. I've modified the OP.

Cutting some of the thread off till things align.

Shortening the threads will change the number of turns to thread it, cutting them back to where they start is in a different place will change the radial alignment of the parts. Trial and error or very careful measurement. Changing the starting point of the threads will also change how deep it threads on if you are threading the cap to a shoulder on the body.

Thanks all! So simple even I can possibly do it:biggrin:

Triple start is in my future, but don't have them at the moment. I'm still practicing.
