We began our wood turning journey about a month and a half ago at the Florida State Fair. We had just been given a Vevor lathe and didn't know anything about it but turning looked fun and cool. My wife went to a wood turners meeting the next week and I really wanted to try it out. Folks told us pens were an easy way to start, but we needed a good lathe. So.... I found a Jet 1221 on FB marketplace and the guy selling was into pens too. He loaded us up with the lathe, blanks, tools, drill press, etc. We were off and running! Once we each turned our first pen, we were hooked!! Cant wait to see where the rabbit trail takes us :)

Welcome! The assistance and guidance available here is second to none - so great find! I am assuming the turners meeting you went to was a local FL AAW chapter meeting - the local chapters are also a great place to learn some great techniques for safe working and turning (www.woodturner.org). Sometimes having someone to show you in person how to do something makes all the difference in the world! Have fun!

Welcome to this madness and enjoy turning! It is rewarding. Ask questions and read some articles in the Library (under "Resources" and "Pen Turning 101") on getting started. Very helpful.

Welcome from Utah. You are going to love that Jet-1221VS. It is a great machine. Many of us here use it, myself included.
