I heard that @Gregory Hardy has passed away and thought it should be mentioned here. He wasn't very active on IAP, but Greg was an enormous inspiration and mentor in the custom pen world. His work is beautiful and highly acclaimed by many fountain pen enthusiasts. He worked closely with his son in making pens, and I hope that Hardy Penwrights will continue making fantastic pens.

This news hit me hard.

I had the good fortune to meet Greg at the Commonwealth Pen Show a few years ago, we'd known each other for a while through membership of the Pen Artisan Guild and planned to get together. I wasn't expecting it to be longer than a minute or two (depending on how busy the show was), but Carlene, his wife, ran the booth while Greg and I wandered outside and spent a solid hour talking pens, materials, tools, techniques, and whatever.

If you've ever held one of his special creations, as I did that day, you might feel the same way I did - it taught me how much room for improvement there is in my work. He set a high bar, and was the nicest person you could ever meet.

I'll treasure the memory.
