ExoticBlanks -YouTube Live & Free Amboyna Burl

Last night I joined Ed, Dawn, Dean and Mark at Exotic Blanks for the monthly "Exotic Blanks Demo". This is free for all to join in online. It was the first night they transitioned from Zoom to YouTube Live so we have a small bit of a new learning curve and set up changes to get used to. Overall, It was a blast. It's hard not to have fun with this crowd. There were four lucky winners from the free drawings, who won free pen sets and blanks along with the "Show Offer" (only available during the live session) where many received free Amboyna blanks with the purchase of the specified pen sets.

Amboyna is one of my favorites to turn. I had the honors of seeing all of the Amboyna blanks,
(hundreds! ) and picked up a few of each color for myself…. Blonde, red, and two tone. There wasn't a bad blank in the pile and it was hard to settle on which ones to buy. Here's a picture of mine. Now I need to find some free time to turn a couple, hopefully if the shop warms up.

The Exotic Blanks Demos are always fun to watch, the new format was nice. I actually found it a little easier for me to listen in because I didn't have to drag my laptop out into the family room to hook up to the TV. (my family may not agree with this level of convenience)

You, Mark & Ed do a fantastic job on the live sessions and I look forward to them every month.

Those burls look really cool. I keep saying I need to get some amboyna and try and never have. Is it more stable (move less) than red mallee? I love turning it but it does crack sometimes.

Yep, the lil Kent provided above will take you to their channel. Under the black bar at the top that says "subscribe" is the word live. That will take you this and future live recordings. The word video will take you to others that Ed has posted.

They are fun, and it helps that we are in a shop at Exoticblanks so we have everything we need on hand. Last night I forgot my bushings….. Ed fixed that very quickly. lol

It is not as "Waxy" or oily as mallee and does not crack or move like that. I believe it is from the Paduak family.

It's the 3rd Thursday of every month. Also, I believe Exotic Blanks will have it posted on their website home page. You can also go to their YouTube page and click the "Subscribe" button. Then you should get a notification when it's scheduled.
