Well, tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 11, I get the cataract removed from my right eye with the left one to follow after a couple of weeks. The onset was very rapid. I am a little nervous, but it sure is going to be nice to be able to see clearly again. - Dave
I hear it makes a world of difference. Speedy recovery to you.

I had both eyes done 1 week apart. Jan 14 and Jan 21. Toric lens at $1800 each. Follow up visit the next morning when the patch came off..... My immediate reaction was WOW. The next one when the patch came off the vision was slightly off... Doc said it's inflamed and will be ok. 24 hours later it was. I do not need glasses...maybe to read really small print.
Relax ..put all of your trust into the Dr and the team. Do everything they tell you. Keep a chart for the eyedrops. Good luck hopefully you'll share the great results/benefits that most of us have gotten from cataract surgery. I am amazed at how sharp the world looks.

I hope you are as happy with your outcome as I am with mine. I had just one eye done - doc says it's too early to do the other.

Had cataracts removed from both eyes. Corrective lenses used. One for closeup and one for distance...monovision it's called. No glasses. Depth perception is not good for night driving so glasses for distance correction at the close up eye corrected that. No issues. Live the result.

It will probably change the way you see colors. Much more vivid AFTER.

One thing I was not prepared for and had to make the decision in a matter of minutes because I was not aware of it. My doctor offered implants that were somewhat expensive so that I could see up close and far off - OR - implant a single lens that let me be far sighted or near sited.

Because I had been near sighted for so long, I really wanted to be able to see distance clearly, and chose that. It was WONDERFUL seeing leaves on trees clearly 50 yards away. But the drawback is I couldn't see to shave well enough without glasses, or reading a book without glasses, or examining a pen without reading glasses. It is something I wish I had thought about more before hand. However, even if I had, I still would have chosen to be able to see clearly to drive and see distance clearly. Anything beyond 10 - 15 feet is clear for me. I love it.

Doctor that performed my Lasik (20 yeas ago) after a few years of checkups told me I would need cataract surgery but told me he would do it when I had my older age tune-up for the Lasik.
I'm older age now and am seeing the need for the surgery also.
Good luck and hope all goes well.

Fond wishes for an easy transition. Been monitoring mine for the past 5-6 years; just not bad enough yet. I'm actually anticipating a future day for better vision.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I haven't had to have it done yet but everyone I know that's had it done says how much better they can see.

Dave,

As everyone says, do all the things the doctor says.
I had both of mine done in 2018. The lenses were a total of about $2500 more than the insurance would pay for but well worth it. Dr. Ford at Pacific Cataract and Laser. He implanted lenses that allow me to see both near and far in both eyes. I had no idea how clouded my vision was. I had progressive lens glasses and thought I was doing pretty good until I had the implants. It was life changing. I was working in the oilfields in west Texas, driving at night on the 2 lane roads with 75mph speed limit and heavy traffic. I had to look at the right hand side of the road to navigate past oncoming traffic. After the surgery, I could see great. My vision in both eyes was better than 20/20.
I did develop a "secondary" cataract after 2 or 3 years, but he removed it in about 10 seconds with the laser. I was very anxious before the surgery. BP was really high. They gave me something to bring it down. I never had any pain and full vision in both eyes late the evening of the surgery, 2 different days. Still don't need glasses except for readers if tiny letters with low contrast in low light.

Well Dave, I certainly hope, that all went well today. I am sitting here just a tad jealous. Hopefully when I have my annual glaucoma check up, I will be able to convince the Doc that it is time for my right eye. Basically it's like looking through a glass of water, the last 4 prescription upgrades has not helped one bit. I am a driver with our rural volunteer fire department and the flashing light just about kill me, especially the blue ones. I will follow-up on your post for when you update it. Prayers for ya……….Smokey

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. The surgery went without any incident, but at my first follow up appointment today, my opthamologist noted that I had a considerable amount of swelling in my cornea -- which is what is causing things to look like I'm looking through a dirty window pane - not blurry, but hard to make out definition through the fog. The steroid eye drops are supposed to take care of it and he thinks it should be gone in a few days -- I sure hope so. Other than that, he said everything looks normal. - Dave

When mine became clear again, I entertained myself by looking at things with one eye closed then the other. Mostly I enjoyed seeing white paper turn yellow and back to white and back to yellow - all the evidence I needed to confirm the other eye is going to need the same treatment sometime.

Same here - the difference between white (blueish) and the eye that still has the cataract (yellowish). - Dave
