Watch a demo live and up close doesn't get any better. Learn all the nuances in making the pen that are just not shown often. Have fun people and take photos. Also put some names with the photos so we can get to see who is who.

Saturday Morning - Turning Alternative Materials

Finally finishing off my agenda for the "Turning Alternative Materials" for Saturday morning. Was planning on talking about the following:

• Differences from wood
• Rounding and supporting corner cuts
• Acrylics (Cutting / drilling / painting)
• Deer Antler
• Aluminum
• Hand Cast Blanks
• Inlays
• Demo of high speed turning acrylics with only a spindle gouge at 40 degrees
• General ideas for home cast blanks

Bring your questions. Hopefully there will be a lot of discussion.

Below are some of the pens I will be demoing …..

Last year you showed me the spindle gouge method, and it worked for some materials for me. I know I have forgotten some info, (my notes are here somewhere), so I am looking forward to a refresher class.

If you want a close up look at the technique for turning acrylics - I have a YouTube video that shows the cut both traditionally that leaves the rough surface and the 45 degree angle cut with the 40 degree spindle gouge.
