Potpourri bowls

I saw one of UK friends that did some potpourri bowls from scrap wood... they were really intriguing, so I found a place to buy a set of lids and started hunting in my scraps for appropriate woods.

This one is Silver Maple.

Poplar wood

Walnut

Cherry

This one is a glue up of Black Limba that the LOML insisted I needed to get...
she even paid for the wood, so I made sure she got a bowl from the wood.

Those are excellent. I have not made these in a few years, but it is easy to turn the recess to also accommodate a glass Tea Candle Bowl. Then they can be used for both a candle and potpourri.

Packard Woodworks has a package of 8 lids for just under $30. I get a lot of my supplies from him, great guy and ships quickly.

What finish did you use ?

Since these won't be handled all that much, I sanded up through about 600, then applied a coating of my homemade Yorkshire Grit... a mixture of mineral oil, beeswax and diatomaceous earth, then buffed with carnuba wax.
