Hi guys. I haven't posted any pens in a while, so here are my latest completions.
A friend requested a tie dye pen, and after a good bit of experimentation, I decided vinyl print was the one that most looked like tie dye … more so than actual cotton tie dye! A pen is too small to capture multiple colors or a pattern.
But the seam line really bothered me. The solution I arrived at was to add tall scallops at the seam side to hide the majority of the seam line. I did one on redheart, and one in blue inlace acrylester. Rather than trying to cut a trim ring, I simply painted the revealed edge purple while I was painting the hole prior to casting. I think the painted ring turned out pretty clean.
My only gripe was the vinyl looking a tad grainy. I'll adjust my print settings for next time.
