My first Artisan Zen pen, in chrome, from CSUSA (Woodturners Catalog). The blank is called Abalone Quartz, and is from Woodcraft. It's a big, hefty pen, which I like. I also like the magnetic cap. Overall, very happy with it.

Thanks to the advice from TonyL, last year I came up with a polishing regimen that works well for me. It ends with Meguiar's 105 and 205. I recently noticed on the bottles, there are scales for how fine or coarse they are. 105 is at 12 (the coarsest), and 205 is at 4. I happened to have a bottle of Swirl Remover, and noticed it's at 3. I went ahead and added it to the regimen on this pen. I can't tell if it made a visible difference or not.

Very nice Jim. Good to see this blank. I just bought a couple in my last order a couple weeks ago and hope to turn one or two. Did you have to reverse paint the blank??

No, I didn't paint or color the epoxy. I thought the tube was showing through in places, but it's just metallic elements in the blank.

As I was scrolling through the pictures, I was wondering about your polishing as it is great. Thanks for answering that question. As previously noted, a very good pen kit to show off a great blank and finish job....

Prior to the Meguiar's polishes, I start with 220, 320, 400, and 600 grit sandpaper wet (sometimes I start with 320, if the surface is smooth enough); and 5 grades of Micro Mesh wet (1500, 2400, 3600, 6000, and 12000). I've also had good results with Tri-M-Ite polishing sheets instead of the Micro Mesh.
