Charles Grage (Glass Scratcher) is in the hospital with double pnuemonia and H1N1 flu. He's in isolation in CCU. His mother has also just been admitted with H1N1.

Update: He was admitted to Baptist Health on Sun morning. Wed. morning we're still in the "wait and see" mode. It could be awhile before getting to the recovery stage.

From all his friends, please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Update: Charles is still in CCU. The pneumonia is finally clearing up but he is still in isolation due to being quarantined for the H1N1. He's on round 3 of Tamiflu. For about five days it was really touch and go. When he got to the point he could hold a phone I read to him what was posted in the thread: "Your prayers, please….". He was very grateful for the comments and prayers. He wants everyone to GET A FLU SHOT! :doctor:He also had a few comments about what to do with anyone coughing around you... something about a 2X4 and a surgical mask.…

In any case he's on the mend and will be back with us soon.

Thanks Keith for our "daily updates" and for passing the info along to the NE Florida Chapter.

Will do! Our newborn is in the ICU right now, but is getting better. So I know what it's like. Not fun!

Terry, thank you for the update. I'm sorry to hear the news. Do you know if Charles has his cell phone with him and if he is able to accept calls while in ICU. I'd like to give him a call. I have the number.

I will also pass the news on to our Woodturning Club as well as the folks in our Local IAP Chapter.

My prayers and thoughts. Not sounding like a good combination. And I personally know how painful the pnuemonia is.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Hope he is on the road to recovery soon!

I have three kids at home with symptoms. Have been tested, will get results later today. The only thing we can do is pray and hope that this virus gets under control pretty soon.

Hey all,

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and kind wishes. I also want to express my own best wishes and prayers for all those out there that are sick or have a loved one or a friend that is sick as well.

I just got home tonight, 12 days in Beaches Hospital. 9 of them in
CCU with isolation. H1N1, plus double multi-focal pneumonia. Believe
it or not I am worn out from all the "bedrest".

Everyone needs to be careful, according to the Communicable Disease
doctor that worked my case over 25% of the US population has been
exposed to the H1N1 flu, and just hasn't gotten sick yet. I am not the britghtest
fellow but I think we are in an unofficial epidemic/pandemic. Last
night they had 30 additions or so to my floor with H1N1.

If anyone is coughing near you or your familiy, leave the area. If
you have any of the Niosh95 face masks, carry one for you and for
every member of the family, use them if faced with someone coughing
and can't evacuate, plus get some of the hospital grade no water
hand-sanitizer. If you don't have any go by Walmart or your local home medical supply
and get some...

Don't take any chances. My 1st 5 days I was on 4 antibiotics plus
saline and intravenous nutrition. I was barely concious those 5 days.
The Pulmonoligist told me last Friday as I was starting to function on
my own, that he didn't expect me to be able to come out of the semi-
comatose state so quickly, and had actually been planning to put me on
a resperator/ventilator.

While my mother did get sick, she just came down with regular flu and
walking pneumonia. My brother Shawn came up from Orlando and got her
and he and his wife, who is an RN, are caring for her till I am back
on my feet in a week or so.

Please forward as you deem necessary. Everyone needs to get a Pneumonia
and both Flu inoculations. Don't take any chances.

Charles.

Welcome Home Charles, It really is a relief to know you are doing better. Take it slow though. It does not surprise me at all that you are worn out and that Pneumonia stuff has a way of coming back if you are not careful. Anyway, it is very early on sat morning here and I can't think of a much better way to start my weekend than with the news you are well on the mend.

Glad to hear your back with us and recovering Charles. Your right, these new flu strains are nasty and should not be taken lightly. I received my flu shot a few weeks ago and am scheduled to receive the N1H1 vaccination this week. Take care my friend.
