What's the general opinion of the AVG software? Any that have it? Do you like it? Does it perform well?
Thanks for your input.

Has worked well for me so far. I just made my annual renewal last week. I had the free version for a year then upgraded for $40.00 after that, which is what I just renewed. So,there are at least two years without a problem.

Hope this helps.

I use the free avira and install it on all my clients computers that i fix for them.I have used the avg before also but i preferred the avira.

I've been using it for a while on several computers at work. I am shifting over to Avast on recommendation... same price - free - and auto updating. I used to use Symantec at my former company, and at home... and payed a lot of money over the years... for nothing better than either of these free versions. Don't forget to use a good anti malware/spyware program too... Malwarebytes is a good one and so is Spybot Search & Destroy - I use both.

I've been using it on both my home computers for more than 8 years with no problems. Can't say for sure how long but I moved here 8 years ago and I know it was well before that.

Come to think about it I bought my first computer about 1980 or 81 and have only ever had 1 virus. Got that on a file I brought home from work.

It might also help that my website provider gives me 500 email addresses. If I go to a site that wants my email I make up a new one just for them. I start seeing unrelated junk coming to an address I delete it, plus I know that that particular site is either selling the addresses or has been hacked for them. Right now I have 49 in use.

Prevex is another excellent and free software. It too can be upgraded to a professional version for about $40.

Thanks for the responces. I will take a look at Avast also.

I guess I need to look for some malware/spyware software as well?

I have been using AVG on all my home computers for years. I love it! I also think Malwarebytes and Spybot are great! No virus problems here!

Scott.

I use Kaspersky Internet suite and no problems for the past few years.

If you wait a bit and get it at Christmas time you can usually pick it up for $20! And that is for a years subscription and auto updating etc...

Andrew

I use two programs that run in the background at all times. AVG free and ZoneAlarm Free for a firewall. I also run Spybot search and destroy, ad aware and easy cleaner at least once a month to check for anything that may have got past AVG. As noted before I have only had 1 virus in almost 30 years of using a computer and using the internet since it was text only with no graphics.

I guess I'll go with the consensus... it was recommended by my son, who is a programmer by trade...... I've been using it for a while now on both mine and my wife's computer... works fine. I had the upgraded version and thought it was a little invasive, but I like the free version.

I have used Avast for several years (5 or 6 I think) I have it on four computers and no problems I have used AVG but when I would burn a movie or software it would mark it as a problem file I was burning them so my 3 and 6 year old nieces wouldn't ruin the original So they were all something I owned and not something I downloaded.
