/rant

When you see some item that someone has for sale in the classifides and you only want one or 3 of them, and someone buys the whole damn lot..

Makes me mad. I know that some here turn a lot of pens and have a large customer base, but how about the little guy??? The one who may need only a couple??

Come the hell on.....

/rant off..

Michael, most here are more than willing to resell a blank or 2, just contact the buyers and they might surprise you, now stop your ranting and try it.

.... Come the hell on.....
Wow, first time I've ever seen that! Does that mean "come ahead" or "come on down" or ... well, I can't figure out what it means!

Personally I don't see the problem. If you want some blanks all you have to do is place a post saying what you want. You would be surprised at how many replies you would get, certainly a lot more than posting a rant griping about it!

On second thought, with the replies above offering to help, maybe griping about it IS the best way to get what you want!

I was looking at some Buckeye Burl. I hate to do this, but I was really frustrated.... The stuff I saw that I wanted to buy was nice and figured...

It's not quite that easy. Wood is unpredictable.

Someone posts some pic of some wood they have. Obviously, the person looking for wood is able to see exactly what is there. It may be something they're looking specifically for but more than likely it's something they weren't looking for but when they saw it, they decided they'd like to have it. I think that's the way the vast majority of pen blank sales here go. Someone isn't really looking for anything, comes across some great blanks, jumps on the opportunity. Most of the time we're buying the unpredictability of the wood, not something we can always ask specifically for or even know to ask for.

I can hear where the guy is coming from. You browse the classifieds ads, some guy has some awesome looking blanks up for sale and one guy will all but wipe out the ad. Sure, the guy has all the right in the world to buy them all, but for us who can only afford a few blanks here and there it is a bit annoying. Not to say it's not a totally legit buy, but that doesn't take the sting of someone buying something out before you get a chance pick up just one or two. As stated above, the best bet is to PM the guy who bought them all and ask to buy one or two.

That's probably an over complicated response to an oversimplified reply.

Being on the other side of the planet sometimes I can hit an ad just right if the seller posts late at night....which is my morning coffee time.

However, the majority of the time I'm just way late to the party.:frown:

I've been on both sides of this one! Just missed something I wanted and cleaned out the best of a batch when my timing was on...both ends can be frustrating....one night I committed to be on when Nolan was listing his DI Burl (and well worth the wait), got exceited when I saw how beautiful it really was, and dropped my car payment into Lil' Nolan's college fund....I was thrilled to get the pieces (and they are among my best sellers, so I guess no mistake there) but the frenzy of not knowing when something will be available again does cause overbuying!
