Great to see Alan's development of Yosegi pen blanks and progress as a fellow maker.
I've been making inlay banding in the more traditional manner then incorporating it into pen blanks for several years now and have also done quite a number of Yosegi inlay banding blocks. These are some I have constructed in the past month or so, but have not turned the pen blanks from them so far.
Hopefully I won't keep getting distracted with new ideas for patterns but now that I have seen Alan's approach to make the whole blank in the Yosegi style I may try a few myself. I have a number already completed with CA awaiting final sanding / polishing, and have been sitting there a while.
The 1st image is the banding blocks simply stacked with a 6 mm or 1/4" spacer between them to take a photo of them, 2nd photo is with face cheeks laminated on and ready for cutting into blanks. The inlay banding is typically 7 to 8 mm wide or approx 5/16" with the veneers typically 0.6 mm or 0.025".
