How critical is it to get the two halves exactly the same size? I want to make some for presents this year but I also want them to work well.

I see PSI has the chrome ball bearing ones on sale, anybody else sell yo-yo kits?

Hi Samuel,

Let me start off by saying that I've not turned a yo-yo. However, thinking about simple physics would tell me that you would want/need both halves to be near the same size/weight so that the yo-yo is balanced. If one side is a fraction off it may not make that much difference. Again, I've not turned a yo-yo so I don't know for sure.

I've never made a yo-yo, but couldn't you get both sides nearly identical by turning the yo-yo as one piece and then sawing it in half?

Just a gut feeling guess. With a set of calipers, it seems like you should be able to get the pieces close enough....thickness and diameter...that you should not have a problem??
