Ever have one of those days when you should have just stayed home?

Put the boat on the truck - took about a half hour as I finally realized the tongue was on slightly crooked and wouldn't lock on...

Brought my family dog along...dropped the leash for a second..he peed on it...

Got in the boat...got it stuck so it woudn't float...got out again and got my feet wet getting in..finally worked...

Motor kept conking out on me...loud, boisterous partiers at beach...had trouble getting it back on the trailer....

Lifted up the motor to get it in 'drive' position, and hurt my neck...this meant that I didn't get it FULLY into the up position - just the first stop (about 45 degrees)...

Danged thing caught as I backed down the slope in the backyard...motor dug in and bent the transom something fierce, and broke the motor bracket...Now I need to get it fixed - it'll cost about what the boat cost in the first place...

Did I mention that this was the inaugural run in this boat??

Like I said, sometimes it's better off staying in bed! :frown:

Off to camp for a few days - hopefully the fishing'll be good up there! :)

Step dad had bought a used boat and of course decided to take it out. Good launch and that was it. throttle cable broke, limped it back in. On the way home, got a flat, no spare. Kept driving. Wheel bearing, same side went out. Kept driving. Shakles broke, same side. It's been parked since. Some times you can't win.

You can't say we didn't warn you! Hope you catch a biggun to make you feel a little better!

Sorry to hear of your trouble. My sister FLIPPED HER BOAT OVER!
Here is more one for you. Make sure the drain bung is in BEFORE you launch the boat! "Daddy; Water is getting into the boat!"

always thought about getting a boat. But heard so many stories like this. ,,, maybe I'll think about it some more.

Happy Days

Two best things to happen to me were, my wife divorced me and took the boat. Two worst things are I remarried and bought a house with a swimming pool.

Having a boat is alot different from having a car, and until you get your system down for putting it into the water and taking it out of the water these things will happen.

Once you get your system down it's alot more enjoyable. This coming from the guy that forgot to put the plug in the first two times the boat went into the lake, and forgot to raise the motor the first time it got pulled out.

Now that the system is in place, I go through it, and then go through it again everytime as these small mistakes can cost alot of money if not followed!

LOML has an Avalanche that is used strictly for work. Its 2 years old and has over 150,000 miles on it. Tranny went out on it the other day. He's been using an extra truck and it quit on him this a.m. I told him he couldn't go near our new F150 for the rest of the month, LOL!

That's some coincidence. My wife's car, the tranny locked up yesterday on the way home from work. She was one block from a tranny repair shop. The car would go in reverse only, so I went up there and backed it down to the shop. Now it's going to cost me $1800. 2005 Monte Carlo, 102,000 miles, and never pulled a trailer.

After ripping the transom off of 3 boats with large motors, I switched to a kayak and have had a great time since. The fishing is excellent and I can get in anywhere.
Remember, the definition of a boat is "A hole in the water in which one pours money".

Update -
Well, the boat can be fixed...but it'll be a few hundred, so it's going ot have to wait until next year, unfortunately...

On a better note, the fishing at camp was excellent - we each got a limit of fish within minutes, and caught a lot of giant lunkers we had to throw back...ever see a 27" walleye before? Good fishing!

Almost makes up for the bad day last week - had a scary moment on the lake though; three foot rollers, 14ft boat loaded as much as I would safely want in it (and then a bit more), and the motor started coughing....made it across fine, however, so all was well..

Andrew,

Sorry to hear about your day..

I had a boat once... my business partner gave it to me... actually as the senior partner, he paid me a "bonus" which I give to him for the boat... he was buying a new one... I had to put a new deck and carpet in it, new seats, the old ones fell out of the rotted floor, put two new power packs in the motor, broke a shear pin in the prop shaft, drug the boat to Dallas when I got transferred up there, but decided not to drag it back to Houston... smartest thing I did was leave it in Dallas...

Andrew, sorry to hear about the boating troubles, maybe next year
will work out better for you.
The fishing trip sounds too good, though!
A 27" walleye would make my day!!
