In the past I have used artist's soft pastel sticks to create art work and am wondering if this could be powdered and added to PR for casting colors. It would be opaque, no light would get through, but if it will mix it would offer another alternative. I'm not into casting yet but seriously considering doing just that. Here's a site, there are lots of them, where you can see some of the thousands of colors available. They can be mixed too.

Any artist supply store will carry these in various forms but I would think one would have to stay away from the materials called Past-oils because they are oil based. I would be interested in hearing opinions on this or if someone has the inclination of trying it, what results they receive. Thanks.

My guess would be that you would have to add a lot of it to work but it probably would work, We tried Tempera powdered paint one time and we had to add a ton of it to get it non transparent i would think those pastel sticks would be similar but it's worth a try to see

I would mix the powder into a small amount of PR first then add the paste to the bulk of the PR. Getting the powder wet will be much easier using less of the liquid to start. Otherwise it seams to want to clump the powder rather than mix smoothly. I know there is some science there but I have no idea what. Naturally YMMV as always.

Most any powder that the PR can wet should be able to be used as long as it does not affect the polymerization process.
