Rent,,, heck you should buy it from him,, its a great video and I have had alot of fun making them and giving them to kids
and remember how much he has
done for us on this site........

Hi Folks,

Ed Davidson's video <b>"Yo-Yo Turnings"</b>, <b>"Creating Outlays from Inlays"</b> by Larry Fox as well as my <b>"Closed-End Pens Design & Turning Techniques"</b> and <b>"Basic Pen Turning with Bill Baumbeck"</b> videos are being sold at the same price as the rentals. It doesn’t make any sense to rent something that could be owned for the same price.

Incidentally, neither Ed, Larry nor I receive any royalties from the rental company.

Bill, any chance you will start carrying the Alan Lacer videos?

How in the heck can the rental company not pay royalties? Most videos are sold "for personal use" and so a rental company should not be able to rent them out unless they have special dispensation to do it. What happened?!?

Bill,
The quality of yours and Eds videos alone should dictate that you should be paid royalties. How can a company do that in good conscious(sp?)? It does not make sens to me.

Mike

Bill and I had discussed this issue when we first discovered that this outfit was renting our videos without permission (or the offer of a royalty), and that's really why we decided to cut the price to own one to less than ten bucks.

In fact, I had been planning to make another two hour long video on bottle stopper design and turning, but got so discouraged with this rental angle that I’ve set the project on the self indefinitely. So yeah, if you want to see more of these type videos made, I'd encourage you to consider purchasing a copy rather than renting.

OK, well first off let me say that I really didn't mean for everyone to run out and 'rent' the video,
I just noticed some names there that stood out, so I apologize for bringing that to everyones attention,
and secondly, I seriously had no idea that anyone nor any company could buy a video and then rent it out without cutting the creator/owner of the video in on any royalties or whatever monies there were to be had, and especially without your permission.

And thirdly, I too would encourage everyone to purchase your video. I did, have watched it numerous times (you can do that if you own it :) and heck, I even payed full price for it [:I]

Ed, if you are taking pre-sales for the stopper video, add my name to the list [:)]

the cost is....

I would like to say, I have YoYo's yoyo DVD and it is wonderful resource. I bought it when he first came out with it and highly suggest it to everyone.

YoYo, I do not know if you have done it yet and you probably have. I would call them and point out that what they are doing is illegal and ask them to either stop or pay a royalty. Now that I know that they are not paying royalties I will not be be renting from them.

Also, I would be on of the first inline for a bottle stopper DVD. Please do not shelve it completely.

Count me in on the bottle stopper video. I wasn't that interested because I don't have enough time to turn pens much less anything else. Then I saw your bottle stoppers with flies...

Can I say I was hooked? [8D]

And if you wanna get even more of my money...how about a video showing how to cast such beasties as the fly in the stopper [:)]

For me, a blank casting challenged turner, that would be outsome.

I would buy that video also.

BB and Ed ..... I suggest you contact a lawyer who specializes in copyright laws.
I'd also suggest that you list your videos in our Business Classifieds. (I already own several of your videos and highly recommend them.)

It occurred to me, (after my heart rate slowed and I stopped perspiring), that a casting video could affect Ed's sales. We might be talking about different things.
