Recently I have had the urge to do wooden center bands. Heres one with a purple heart center band on maple.

I like it looks good it's nice with slims you can have fun creating.
Really looks good you can keep the pen a little fatter. I like how you segmented the little pieces of purple hart to bring you into the center bands. Flows very nicely.

I like what you are doing. Replacing the old chrome, gold, silver center bands is a wonderful idea. I used left over acrylics to dress up my usually bland wood pens. I issue to to complement the base color in a contrasting method.
