The instructions are wrong from what I have found.

I also have found that this is the European-style Slim where the lower barrel is longer. But the directions are a guide.

On sale for $10 for 6 kits.

Online at the Woodcraft website, I see "WoodRiver - 7mm Slim Style Ballpoint Pen Kit - Assorted with Antique Finish - 6 Piece" for $24.98 (Clearance), down from $29.99.

It may be at a special $10 price in your local Woodcraft store for $10, but not from a web search. I would have bought them 6 for $10, but not 6 for $24.98. (In my opinion, it is an okay price these days for a slimline type pen kit, but not a "fly off the shelf" bargain.)

Based on appearance in the link you provided, it looks to be Woodcraft's rebranded Berea Ezline available on Berea's site in 5-packs for a little over $10.00. Berea also sells a 3 plating 5-pack starter set with a variety of blanks, the bushings, and a drill bit. I bought the starter when Berea introduced them, but I haven't made any yet.
