While I was in Arizona last week I saw the thread by CSUSA about the woodworkers show and contacted Kirk about stopping by. With all that was going on at the ranch, I was in need of a diversion so I went by. I met some great people and had a good time showing some future pen makers how to make their first pens. The pens that I saw getting made by people that had never turned anything showed what could be done when someone works with you on it. Their first pens put my first pen too shame and the smiles I saw were well worth the time. If you get a chance to go to one of the shows, stop by the CSUSA booth and spend a little time working with those that haven't had the chance to learn to relaxation of turning yet. Kirk and Ben from CSUSA were great to talk to and I feel that I learned something from being there and it was a great way to spend the day. I am looking forward to going to the show when they come to the East coast.

I'm glad you had that experience Neil . It would have been great for me to have had that kind of personal instruction when I started . In fact it would still be great to have some NOW ! Thanks for sharing that with us .

Neil, glad you could get away & relax some. I spent a couple of hours there Sat. afternoon, and a lot of it at the CSUSA booth. Wish I'd have known what you look like & knew you were there. Would have liked to meet you. It was fun watching them turn a pen & the pride they had. Got a kick out of a little girl turning. Maybe 8-10 yrs old. I had to bend down to see her with the face shield on. Made a comment on how nice a job she's doing. Got a BIG smile on that cute face. That was one set of bushings that won't be used again. Watched one young man [20's] using a 3/8 spindle gouge for sometime & wasn't even making sawdust. I mentioned to raise the handle & it would start cutting. "No, they told me to lower it." It was GREAT that CSUSA supplied the parts & equip. to make so many people happy & learn a new hobby. Hats off to them.

I stopped by on Saturday on my way up to Phoenix and picked up some more kits. I talked with Dennis for a couple of minutes and then I took off again. It would have been nice to meet, but there will always be another chance. It is great watching a kid make a pen for the first time and even the older folks were having a great time of it.
