So while waiting on Wally world to finish rotating my tires I am doing some browsing. I was in the tool area and wandered into the home section when I saw some wooden spoons that caught my eye. I thought, hmm, that handle is big enough for a pen blank. Then I looked at the tag. It is Acacia wood. Now I know this isn't Acacia from Israel (or at least I am fairly certain it isnt). But that is the kind of wood used for the Ark. So I dig around more and find a 16x22" pie board, over 3/4" thick. And one of the glued of pieces had some fantastic grain movement. $25 and I have 12 killer pen blanks and a bunch more to sell at my next pen group meeting.

Interesting and beautiful timber.

In round figures there are 1400 Acacia species in the world. Of these very close to 1000 - or 70% are native to Australia, Does this mean there is a 70% cnce that that timber is Australian???
