Good afternoon everyone! I am a new member and look forward to learning more and maybe sharing some ideas of mine. I have only done pens for a couple of years but I have been an avid (and amateur) woodworker for over 50 years. I enjoy making various styles and working with these exotic woods, and love when customers (few as they are!) are thrilled with my work. I am semi-retired, having spent my career as a software design engineer and finally as Director of Information Technology for a Chicago area movie theatre chain. It is with that chain I am still employed, now as the Technical Director for the only theatre we have that does live shows (the historic Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove, IL for those of you familiar with the western suburbs). I am looking into doing knives in the neat future -- mainly culinary as opposed to hunting. I have done one, but I sure need some improvement before I could consider myself good at it. Much harder than pens!

Welcome from Texas, Steve.

Post some photos of your other woodwork in the "Other Things We Make" forum - we always enjoy seeing & learning about other types of projects.

Steve, welcome! Woodworking is a nice respite from "technology"--it's nice to actually create something tangible rather than just pushing bit around.

Yes, knives are a whole different ball game. Especially if you are forging and/or grinding your own blades. I've only finished one and probably spent 40 plus hours on it. Have several other blades in various states of completion that I hope to finish "one of these days", though I need to get my own forge built first.

Regards,
Michael
