I picked up this piece of wood a few weeks ago at an estate sale. It is marked Bocote and is very heavy, about 12 pounds. Measures 33" x 6" x 1 1/2"
I never saw Bocote this dark. Thought maybe might be Cocobolo.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Keith

It's probably only dark on the surface. Some of those oily woods do that. Take a sliver off the end exposing the inside and you'll know.

Agree with JohnU above - Some Old board species will turn dark over the whole surface area over years and not even resemble what fresh or recent cut versions look like. Mulberry is very much teak like in color, but left to nature, sun light and years will look almost American walnut brown.

I bought a crapload a long time ago, still have a few pieces. Mine did not get that dark. I go by smell. It's unmistakable when it's cut.
