I picked up some different wood from a specialty place in Jersey. I gave the owner a pen and she gave me a great deal. I just cant figure out what some of it is. I will post pictures, describe the wood and mention what I think it is. Please help so i could mark it.
Thanks

Numbers 1 and 5 are the same piece just different ends. It is very heavy and dense. It is also very dark. I was thinking Gaboon ebony or macassar.

Numbers 2 and 3 are the same, I just wanted to show the end grain. This is also very heavy. It is red in color and faint grain patterns. I was thinking Padauk but am iffy..

Number 4 is just another piece thrown into the bunch. I am lost with this one. I know it looks like oak, but the grain patterns dont add up.

My guesses would be Blackwood (or Ebony with the crack), Padouk, Oak. Like you the Oak just doesn't look quite right though.

heres a tip that may help with number 2 can you make some shavings with it and tell us what if it at all smells of? you could possibly do that to some of the others as well. I think I have an idea of number 2 but this is what I would do if I had some. it looks quite dense and has a faint red line in accross the board. any way let us know

Rarest Wood, what does number 2 smell like? I told you before, drop it on your toe. Then you'll know it's dam wood.
