Hello, another wood ID. I just cut this up from a few logs I got over the summer, its some kind of fruit wood, maybe plum??? Sorry the pics are not great I need to work on my lighting. The turn round has some nice curly figure, it turned great as its still pretty green. Some very nest streaks of purple in the wood. Thanks guys, victor

Victor Purple streaks make me think of lilac . How large does it grow in your area ? Check the bark . Plum will have reddish brown with well defined horizontal lenticels when young(<4 inch?? dia) , but will be dark gray to nearly black on a large tree , with vertical fissures in the bark , curling back sligtly to reveal the inner bark . Can you get any idea from the smell, I know I like using cherry, apple, and Olive for the scent they give off as you cut or turn them.

There is a Lilac bush and a Lilac Tree. The tree is a harder wood and grows upright like most trees, but Ive never turned Lilac tree so Im not sure if it get the purple in the wood like the bush does.

I have quite a lot of wood from very old plum trees that has some beautiful purple streaks and a lot of pinkish coloring with some contrasting light coloring. Here's some photos of a mini box of plum (actually I like to call it prune wood just because of the Prune Hill area I'm from). I do have some wood also from a different type of tree--flowering plum that is grayish colored with some pretty highlights---but to me, it looks like yours could be the plum---although could be lilac which I've had some of and it didn't have the pinkish color---just the purple streaks.

Another member mentioned this place in a recent thread. It has some fabulous wood ID information. Be sure to check the individual sections as the pics and ID info are spread throughout the site. Some pictures are not there with the ID but there is a section divided into Domestic Soft,Domestic Hard, Exotic something or the other.
