Do any of you smart people use Windows Mail with the Vista operating system? I am having some problems with it. BTW, the computer came with Vista, it is not an upgrade.

First, even though I have the auto-complete email addresses button checked, it is like the system forgets to do so. It will occasionally, but usually won't.

Second, if I try to send an email with an attachment like a jpg file, I get an error message that contact with server has been lost. They system keeps trying to send the email until I delete it.

Yes, I do have other email accounts. This one is my main address through ComCast, and I want to keep it.

TIA for any help, especially if it is presented in a simple, easy to follow format. [)]

I'm just speculating, but both of these may be timing issues... The lookup process for autocomplete is fairly slow and I've seen it before where it doesn't seem to be doing anything while it's really just busy.

The jpg upload may also be timing -- in this case the timeout while talking to the mail server. You should be able to change the timeout setting.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Barry, but I have changed the timeout setting with no effect. The other problem is just strange. I might send you an email today and it will reconize your address. Tomorrow, it will act like it has never heard of you. I am beginning to think Ed had someone haunt my computer!

William,
Just forget that piece of junk and download Thunderbird. It's free. It's from Mozilla. It's just an email client, like Outlook.

Thunderbird is real nice but it is rumored that development might cease in the future because Eudora is now being developed as open source by the Mozilla team. I have used the paid mode of Eudora for many years and it is a fantastic program. It might be worth a look.

Stick with what 94% of the world uses, the MS program. Two things come to mind, your new computer may be shy on memory. I know 1 gig. is considered enough but users are saying it often isn't and many upgrade to 2 giggers. And, I would call Comcast tech support to check your settings with regard to the error messages. I'll betcha these are minor issues that will iron out shortly. Outlook Express is a good mail program. There are those who hate it just because it is a spawn of Bill Gates. [}:)] [;)]

Sorry Frank, but 94% of the world does not use Windows Mail. This is something new with Vista. Plus, Outlook Express is a highly stripped down version of Outlook which is a pretty good email client. I use Outlook at work and at home, but I would never use Outlook Express.

Actually, a true geek on another forum once corrected me on that percentage. He said it was really only 92%. But, I'm stubborn. [;)]

A large percentage of Windows computer users use Outlook Express or Windows Mail or whatever it may be called because it comes pre-installed and the majority of people don't know there's anything available that may be better. There are better products available that are also free. Just because a lot of people use it doesn't mean it's worth using.
