I have some walnut burl.. That is needing to be dried.. I have been staring at it for over a month now. So I decided last night to try the toaster oven to dry it out.. Man did it stink up the house.. I am wondering how long before she talks to me again.. On the good side.. Looks like it worked.. Should be able to turn it in a couple of days..LOL

Well in my opinion, as a wife.... Cleaning the whole house (top to bottom), a full body massage, breakfast in bed, nice romantic dinner on the town, taking care of the kids all weekend (if you have any). That would be a great start!!!

Only kidding, set up the blank and let her turn it. Then not only will she be more understanding of the smell and messes, but she might want to buy more tools!!!

Hope this helps and good luck!

I put a piece of Claro walnut in the microwave to dry it. It did make it smell, but I like the smell of walnut and it was such a nice reminder every time we used the Microwave for the next week or so. My wife didn't say anything about it, good thing to since it was for one of her christmas presents ;)

I think my problem was it was waxed.. The combination of the two smells was bad.
I already do all that for my wife... But she won't go on the lathe. It scares her.. Thou booth my kids do...

You mean you have to do something to get your wife pissed at you? I thought us guys just had to wake up everyday for that.

As a wife and a turner .. not only would I not be talking to you .. I might be planning your demise [}:)]
Of course .. I also have 4 exotic parrots that could die from the fumes so there is a pretty big difference;)
Get some of Santa's Extreme Heat, High Pressure coal blanks .. she'll forgive you!

My wife never got mad at me for nuking blanks but she did get me one of those cheap little microwaves for my shop, so that I don't have to use hers in the kitchen.
