Both polyester and Epoxy resins are used in fiber glass fabrication. Poly is falling out of favor so is it unsuitable for pens?

Epoxy will work but it is typically not as hard as polyester and therefore is harder to get a nice gloss. I use it mostly for filling engravings. Also epoxies tend to be more expensive. Polyester is still the workhorse resin for pens, although some use Alumilite which is a polyurethane.
