I know the title is mean sounding but I have a question?
Does anyone care where a sports star plays and to announce it as a TV special make him anymore valuable? Lebron James is a good player but in this day and age the demands he, Stoudemier and the others make are nothing more than a selfish act when people in this country are losing homes, jobs etc? I have never been a big pro sports fanatic, I would rather watch a college or high school game at least they try there best. I for one refuse to pay the prices these stars demands are doing to ticket prices, making them beyond the reach of most families and only the rich can afford. 2 Years ago we had 6th row tickets to Suns game and I looked up the price of these seats before hand and they were going for over a hundred dollars, hell I could better seats in my living room and have one heck of a party if I wanted for that price, put in the cost of parking and food and drink I could make a mortgage payment, so why should I shell out that kind of cash (shich I never will) to help and over priced ball player out. Not and never in my lifetime will I. I don't want to offend anyone just venting my opinions.

I totally agree! And to keep pounding it in us for days on end is borderline abuse. Nor do I care when some actor or actress gets jail time because they couldn't be bothered to show up for court! I guarantee if you or I were in that situation they wouldn't give two hoots about us!

His program last night got a 7.2 market share, higher than the football playoffs---someone cares!!!

NOT me, by the way-just heard that this morning on CNBC.

I would like to be comfortable even if I was wealthy I would still be the same ole country boy just driving a new truck LOL

I totally agree that they are overpriced but lets remember this is a free enterprise system, and the owners of these teams seem to still make payroll, and have huge profits so even though me and you can't or won't pay to see them at the arenas enough people are and then throw in TV revenues, corporate sponsorship revenue from selling team logo items. Let's not blame the players only (if I was 2 feet taller and 50 years younger and could hit a 3 point jump shot 50% of the time damn right I'll get as much as I can for the short period I could play) the owners allowed this and they still are doing well.
Are my pens worth what I sell them for.....only if the customers buy them think so same applies to sports, you said you watch them on TV so in a way your are helping to pay them as the networks paid heavily to broadcast then sell advertising to make a profit. That's called free enterprise....

Hi Roy about the only sports I watch on TV anymore are Rodeo and a little baseball and a little, I like watching college sports more than anything but that is a very limited time as my TV time is only a few hours a week and less than hour is any sports at all I just don't like wasting my time, but I see your point as well.
My woodworking and computer work are second only to loml. It is a shame that corporate greed has ruined pro sports imho and like you said I can't blame only the players as the owners play a major role in the cash as well as the advertisers.

I know that I am in the minority but I find it amazing that we make stars and hero's of these guys. All these guys do is play games. They play them very very well but after all, it's still just a game.

My stars and hero's are the folks in the military, the police, the firefighters and all others who risk life and limb for us on a daily basis. They do this for much less than our "hero's" but they do not complain.

Guess you can tell that I'm not into sports.

Very Well Said I could not agree more :)

I no longer watch the "Bitchy Millionaire League" (this means pro football, baseball and basketball) teams play. They have totally disconnected for the "regualr guy" who paid their saleries. When you count parking, refreshments, and tickets a family of four can no longer go a baseball game and sit in the "cheap" seats for $100.

College athletics work just fine for me.

Allow me to be oppositional for a moment...

How many people are employed by these organizations? Staying with just Football:

NFL/AFL organizations
Teams and all the support staff
Stadium staff
Television crews, photographers, other media
The players themselves who can't save money and spend it like water probably create micro-economies of their own
Ticket resellers (Ticketmaster, et al)
Restaurants around the stadiums
Then there's all the team gear... Manufacturing, transportation, retail

I'm sure there's more that I can't think of. The point is while I personally can't stand watching sports, it's a significant part of our economy. And if people want to spend their money on sports, who am I to argue?

There is NO argument with this statement. However, I equate the athletes in this scenerio to the CEO's that recieved massive bonus money after leaving thier respective companies in financial ruin. If these people's pay was less excessive, IT COULD HELP these micro or macro economies.

This confirms what I have know for years. People need to get their values and priorities in the right order. I could not imagine a bigger waste of time.

BTW Linda and I have been wearing out the History channel lately.

"The King" brought in an estimated $150 million for every home appearance to the Cleveland economy. $150 MILLION DOLLARS FOR EVERY HOME GAME. Before Lebron got to Cleveland, they were about to start giving tickets away. Last year, you couldn't get a Cleveland home game ticket. He is a big crowd draw, and will do the same thing in South Beach. The economy will increase incredibly just because of him.

Oklahoma City just got their first ever pro sports team (GO THUNDER!!). Almost overnight you could tell the difference in our local economy. There were businesses that would have never existed in Oklahoma, but with NBA money, they can operate comfortably. Plumbers, Electricians, auto sales, builders, tradesmen (and women), pet care, pool cleaners, dry cleaners, food stores, appliance stores, video game sales, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. NBA stars do have and create micro economies. Some of these guys ahve more money than small countries, so naturally they are going to promote their local economies.

These "Devil Pro sports" bring alot of money to your local economies, and alot of jobs benefit from them. If you neglect your team, they will leave, and take their money with them! Ask Seattle.......

As for Lebron... I don't blame him at all. I think the negative reaction from the people of Cleveland shows greed and selfishness. They don't care about Lebron, They are mad because he took his bank account with him, and now they have no ringmaster. They will lose MILLIONS in revenue because of his personal decision. Instead of giving him their best, and offering an open return ticket if it doesn't work out in Miami, they called him names and ran him out of town. Now if it doesn't work for him in Miami, he won't go back to Cleveland, I am fairly sure that is a safe bet!

I enjoy pro foot ball ON TV, can't stand to watch Basketball... I think the rules have all changed since the days I played a little bit in High school... it looks to me like the players are all traveling with the ball, can't stand it when they jump and catch hold of the rim and dangle there... I think the score should be dis-allowed when they do that... or raise the basket a couple of feet and give them something to shoot at... with the height of players, most can almost reach the rim from a flat foot stance or only a slight hop...

I've gone to 3 pro games in my life time... my boss had season tickets to the Rockets... he let me use them one weekend because he was out of town... it was BORING - BORING... we left at half time.... my second date with my wife was to an Oilers game in the old Astro Dome... pretty nice seats, nice game, very comfortable, lots of beer and camaraderie... (she had won the tickets from an airlines representative and there were several people in our industry sitting around so we had friends to talk with) and the last time I got tickets from a trucking representative who was angling for my business... they were for the first game of the New Houston Texas in the New Reliant stadium... no leg room, the seats were just under the owner's box, the stadium was too crowded, too small, too noisy and generally uncomfortable... I like my easy chair in my living room... the beer's cheaper too.
