I have seen several people use the white board molds held together with screws ect. My question is which do you prefer white board or the molds?

It might help if you state which you prefer and why. Benefits of one vs the other, etc.....

I'm using both. If I want to make blocks or knife blanks I use the cutting boards. If I have specific sizes in mind, I'm using the molds. If I am looking to make stock blanks, I use 3/4" pvc pipe.

I use 1/2'' thick UHMW, i got some left over scraps from work (cheap) made the sizes i needed. I also use 3/4" pvc pipe.

Oh, I forgot, I use PVC pipe too, but I split one side of the pipe to be able to get the cured Alumilite casting out. I've done this with 1 1/2" pipe for game call castings and bottle stopper castings. But I have not tried the 3/4" for a pen blank.

I think if I get to the point that I want to cast items with tubes about the only way to go is to have a mold for that size of tube/blank.

I like white sign board, the corraguated kind. Hot glue all around and wrap foil around the outside. Good for oddball WW size stuff.

Is this the same stuff they use for the election signs?

No, absolutely not, those are constructed like cardboard but they use light weight plastic, the white boards we are talking about are the kitchen chopping white boards, normally about 12mm thick, such as these white cutting boards | eBay

Another very good source for the whiteboards is your local Goodwill or thrift store. I have a collection of them that I will use for different projects around the shop. The usual cost at a thrift store is around $2 which also avoids the shipping costs associated with ebay.

As it were in our neck of the woods...it is what us backward west coasters use for elections. Yeeehaaa!!
Having never made the comparison between the two...I just said I use the sign board as an alternative...not as a gospel replacement. Don't knock it until you try it!

Yup...Lowes or Depot. OSH and Ace maybe, but I haven't checked there. After you hot glue it, wrap it in foil and to contain any tiny leaks and cast away! Keep in mind, I only use this for one-time use WW blanks of odd sizes

I hear so many people talking about using 3/4 pipe...I end up having to beat the snot out of the blank to get it out!

I had a problem when I first tried this, but then I let it cure longer and it came right out with almost no effort.
