I come to this sub-forum almost daily....I want to learn as much as possible before taking the 'plunge'!

Hoping that ya'll will share your favorite/best value for the buck vendors!

Hope all of this helps. You can probably get away with 32oz of castin craft resin, some sample baggies of mica, and 1 or 2 molds for well under $100 including shipping. Now that doesn't count for mixing cups, stir sticks, and other various neccessities. most of all have fun and be safe (the fumes are very strong so have plenty of ventilation).

I did some research and started calling some boat repair shops. One local to me sells Silmar 40. Similar properties to Silmar 41 and I can get it locally which is always a plus.

As far as Alumilite, I have purchased it from the Alumilite online store only. I think they are the cheapest IIRC.

Coloring: I have used Pearl-Ex powders and oil based paints that I purchased. The Pearl-Ex I picked up from someone on IAP here that was selling it cheap.

Not exactly the answers you were probably looking for but local research may work wonders on what you can find.
 
Don't know about other Woodcraft stores, but the Woodcraft's here in Houston carry the 32 oz size Alumilite for $25.
 
Silmar 41 is Poly Resin aka Polyester Resin aka PR. USComposites has excellent deals on Pigment Sampler Kits in both opaque and transparent types. Douglas and Sturgess Art Supply also has a wide range of colorants, dyes, and luster powders as well as polyester resin. http://www.artstuf.com

Check This Website out for Michael's Coupons. I check it regularly when I know I need some PR from Michael's. I got a 50% off coupon at the first of the month. Whichever coupon you use, print is and make several copies of it. The website will limit how often you visit the coupon page. Making copies will allow you to purchase the PR or what every else you want everyday until the sales ends. You are only allowed to use one coupon per day per customer. When I want to purchase 2 Cans of PR in one day I get my wife to check out at a different cashier. Hope this helps. Be sure to click on print coupon and not on the body of the coupon offer. Clicking on the body offer will cause you to go straight to Michale's website.

You can get the Pearlex Pouders from Michael's and you can find 40% of coupons all the time that you can just print out and take in the store. I usually go wit the wife so that I can use two of the coupons in one visit. One for her and one for me. :)
