I'm new to pen turning... haven't even gotten my kit yet, so the first one hasn't even come off the lathe... but it sounds like fun...

Where is the best place to get specialty supplies? I'm thinking about pen caps with logos etc? Would like to make a pen with a Rotary wheel on the top... but don't know where to get it, and not smart enough to make my own yet.

Pen blanks? quite a difference in price from web site to web site... any advice for you guys that have been doing this a while?

I'm located in Sunny California... if that makes a difference.

Check links for suppliers on home page - Hut or Berea has the logos (don't remember which).

Prices depend on the kits you want to use, but they are also on the homepage links. Might start with woodturningz - good prices on the usual "starter" kits - 7mm and cigar.

Good luck and feel free to ask specific questions, we will try to answer.

Welcome!!!

Chuck,
Try www.hutproducts.com for logo clips for pens. As far as pen blanks you can buy them all over including some on this site. However, if you are new to pen turning I would suggest that you start with inexpensive wood blanks (Ebay is a great source if you are careful)and some slimline or comfort pens. Not a lot of money invested that way. I bought walnut blanks off Ebay for about 20 cents each to learn on.
After you have turned a few then venture into better kits and fancier woods and acrylics. OR, you can back out now and save a ton of money![:D]

Welcome to the wonderful world of Penturning Chuckie!!
For quality pen blanks to purchase after practicing on some free/inexpensive blanks look in the Business section. Lots of good deals from fellow turners.
Email me your address and I'll send some freebies out your way.

thanks for the advice to get out now... lol

my wife's cousin shared this hobby and I think it's about the coolest thing.

i've enjoyed reading other posts and really was impressed with making a pen out of the green/blue water pipe... got me thinking about other things i could make pens out of... cheap... so if I mess up it wouldn't be too bad...

Does anyone make a living doing this stuff... I'm ready to chuck the one I have.
