Alright I have been sitting waiting and waiting on the Amazon Friday Sale. It is now after midnight (here anyways) and still no sale. Just keeps telling me to check back next week. I need that Jet mini VS to be on sale again with free shipping. Guess it's just wishful thinking. I am about to the point of just getting the non VS model. :(:(:(

What's this about Friday sales?? Is this a regular occurrence? I don't do enough business with them to know about such things.

I did look for the JET VS and there is one listed for $329 plus free shipping. What would it go for on sale?

Thanks.

It was recently 299 with free shipping. Before I was ready to buy. For the Friday sale they just choose whatever and put it on sale for Friday only. It may be cheaper it may not. Just depends.

I waited for the jet VS to go on sale. I bought it on sale at a rockler dealer. I like it.. A few months later I found a delta lathe non vs model on craigs list really cheap.. So I have both. If I had it all to do over again.. I wouldn't spend the extra money on the VS model.. It is so easy to change the speeds and for the most part you only use two speeds.. Just my .02 worth.. That extra $100.00 would have bought a lot of pen kits..

My sentiments exactly, Dan!!

I haven't seen the Delta in person; but from the pictures, it seems like belt changing would be a lot easier with the Delta than with the JET?? Having access to the top headstock pulley from the front makes a lot more sense to me than the way Jet does it. Is that a fair analysis or not??

Thanks.

Yes. I really like the Delta. I like booth. But if I was just starting out and money was a factor.. I would buy the delta to start. There is always times that you may need a different speed.. But it is so easy and fast. It is not worth the extra money. I have both lathe's setting next to each other.. I am usually working on two or three pens at a time.. But if I am not. And I just need to work on one.. I always go to the Delta first.

I guess, just like in real life, there are two sides to every coin! I started out with a non-variable speed Jet mini and last month added the $85 variable speed upgrade kit.

I'm nothing but grins from ear to ear and there is no way anyone is going to convince me that stopping the lathe, loosening the tension knob, opening the access door, repositioning the pully and re-tightening the tension knob then restarting the lathe is as simple as simply reaching over and turning the speed knob! Who's kidding who? That's $85 I would gladly spend over again!

Cowchaser, don't give up, it's worth waiting for... unless you find a good price on a non-variable speed lathe and do the $85 upgrade like I did. PSI had the upgrade kit on sale last month, it may still be on.

I did notice that my Jet 1642 was on sale this week at Amazon with FREE shipping... WOW! I'm going to have to start watching for the Friday sales.
