What is it for?

Clue: I've been working with one of our members on a design improvement.

You're going to use it to thread the insert into the sierra to make a pencil easier.

Close enough!

Bear in mind that you're looking at the prototype.

Now you just have me lost. How is that going to do something? I'm sure you see it, but I need a push in the right direction.

Ah .. I see it now.

I was thinking you made a PVC thread clean-out tool for your die.
(although you'd have to make a whole set..)

Look at the nib end of a sierra and you will see that the threads that the transmission assembly thread into are very deep. The design intent is to screw the pencil mechanism into the nib end deep enough so that the transmission assembly will thread in behind it. This will make it much easier to accommodate for variations in the depth of the mechanism and has the added benefit id eliminating the "spongy feeling" that some of these conversions exhibit.

The reason that this came about is because a member had recently purchased some of the Rizheng kits and they are different enough from the kits currently on the market that my conversion instructions will not work. Gerry graciously provided my with a couple of kits and a mechanism to experiment with and he is also sending me a couple more kits so that I can document the "new and improved" process. This process does involve the investment in an odd sized tap & die but I was able to purchase them both for less than $25.00. Instructions will follow as soon as I get then done.

I considered myself ineligible to win, but I do appreciate the time and creativity you have put into this. A couple more kits are on the way.
