I've been filling alot of casting orders lately and it got me thinking/experimenting. What type of swirl looks best? Large fat swirls with good distinction between colors (first pic), small tight swirls that has some color blending (first pic), or this new type of swirl I've been working on (pic 2 & 3). It has awesome color separation, in my opinion a much better color flow to the blank, and if timed right could pass for a segmented blank. So I guess what I'm looking for is some feedback as to what your preferences are. I actually have a couple days off work so I'll be in my shop turning this new one and I'll post my work later on so we can see how they look once turned. Thanks for taking to the time to check this out and even more to those that participate!

I look for both attributes when selecting blanks. True. The broader swirls can give a segmented look. Sometimes with a particular color combo, I prefer the smaller more blended swirls. Defined color separation is a preference of mine..

I like the smaller swirls.
Just looks like there is more going on and you get nice colour separations all over the blank.

Both look great, but i would prefer smaller swirls!

I think they both look good, but if I had to choose it would be like the bronze and black blank at the bottom of the first picture. Not a lot of small swirls and not real big ones. kind of in between.

I like the first group best...less color separation is nice and yet at times it's not because the blended colors are just as interesting as the non blended colors. When I pour blanks, I like to let the resin start to gel, but I don't use a timer or anything..whatever happens is ok with me.

Depends on the colors with large contrasts I prefer looser swirls with colors that are closer to the same shade then tighter swirls but of course there are exceptions to every rule.

I like the smaller swirling of pic1. I like the way the smaller swirling wraps all the way around the pen that the larger does not all the time (pen size depending). Larger swirls, to me some times end up as a half & half look.

I would say the blanks in pic 1. Maybe some variables involved such as pen size and style, also the look that is desired. Looking forward to seeing the turned samples.

Good looking blanks.
