I'm still new to this plastic turning and was wondering the difference in Acrylic,Acrylester,PR blanks and whatever other ones out there? To me they all look the same. They are all plastic right? Are they suppose to be better when finished? Softer or harder to turn? Please fill me in with this.
Thanks, Toyotaman

The easy answer, Yes, they are all the same.

The hard answer, No, they are not the same, and some of them are drasticly different than others. The chemical compisition of each material, and sometimes even different blanks within the same material, can be totally different.

PR is more brittle than Alumilite. The professionally manufactured materials (in my experience) ten to be harder or more brittle than the homebrews. The best thing to do is experiment with diferent materials. Alot of people love alumilite for casting, alot of us prefer PR. Some people like to turn the acrylester, some people like trustone.

Because each persons turning technique can be so different, and tool angles, etc. It is hard to say one over the other. For me, It is all about personal taste.

I prefer PR. I would rather turn a good PR blank than any other material.
