I'm getting ready to send a box of blanks to get stabilized. I know my curly maple needs it, especially the spalted, punky stuff. What other woods would benefit from stabilization? I mostly use central KY wood ie maple, oak, walnut, cherry, ash, sycamore, chestnut, holly.
Most specifically, would walnut root Burl benefit?

Thanks,
David

Stabilized wood is much nicer to turn than non stabilized and stabilized wood makes a very nice pen. I don't suppose any wood actually "needs" stabilizing except as you metioned...soft, punky, spalted and possibly burls. Not all woods respond to being stabilized... i.e. not all woods can be stabilized. I would choose my nicest figured pieces as candidates for stabilization along with those that really do "need" stabilizing.
Do a good turn daily!
Don
