I've got a lot of spalted hackberry with worm holes. What is best to use for a filler? I have alumilite and Castin Craft Resin. Is one better? Should I use pressure? Thanks for any help.

How big are the holes. If they are large enough and go all the way through in spots, PR will work. But I normally use Alumilite with any Worthless wood type casting as it doesn't shrink while curing. If the holes do not go all the way through then as the PR shrinks, it will pull away from the wood and not adhere very well.

If you have access to pressure the answer is yes. Pressure will help to drive the liquid into the pores of the surface of the wood and help it adhere better as it cures.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Fred. The holes are about 1/4" dia. and most go all the way through depending on how I've cut the wood. I have 2 pickup loads or more and half is wormy.

Those will make absolutely stunning blanks. I would use alumilite since the shrikage (like Fred said) is less. Color them up....wow. Good luck and let us see some results!

Two pickup truck loads???? Wow.
