Just got my PM3520 and got it all wired up and ready to go. When I bought the lathe I ordered a Stronghold chuck for it. I also ordered a new adapter so I could use one of my Talons on it. Neither of which have shown up yet.

But, I use a collect chuck for pen making and don't have an adapter for the 3520. And I can't get the stock "Monster" tool rest close enough to the pen blanks for "reliable" turning.

What's a guy to do when he has to make a couple of pens for a customer order??

I must not understand your question..that is a jet in the pic..seems it might work 'fer ya !! Can't be that easy...so this must be over my head

I say get rid of the the "Mustard Monster" and get something you can turn pens on. By the way I live in California so if you will be posting a "Curb Alert" make sure to let me know. I see shavings under the Jet so it must be up and running. Also if you want to swap for a "Real" workbench let me know, I would hate to see super glue on the Powermatic.

Great set up you have there just too clean.

Have a great day,

Of course you could just pop over to the classifieds and buy a custom tool rest that is not so long. Beall has an adaptor, so you can use the collet chuck in both machines. Of course, nobody wants you to have to get that new machine dirty, so the ultimate answer to your question is that if you have a custom pen order to do, just send them to me and I'll take care of it.

Move the Jet just a bit closer and you can turn with both hands at the same time. Pens on the left, bowls on the right. Hope you're ambidextrous.

Custom tool rests in 3.5" and 6" showed up just after this picture was taken. Beal collet chuck will be ordered tomorrow (with a 1/4" collet (which is my most used)).

You wouldn't want these orders, Jeff. Too simple and all plastic. It was the blue+sage pens I posted a couple of days ago.

I live just across the Bay from Greg and I will be glad to bring over my Rikon so you can turn pens and I take that home so it won't be in his way.
Wow, aren't you lucky. Very nice, now you can make BIG BOWLS.
Have lots of fun.
Where does LOYL's car go now?
