It seems to me that the Baby Bomers, of which I 'm one, has screwed thier kids (not all but most) up and they in return are hurting our grandkids. They have to have the biggest and best of everything and if anything goes wrong it is always someone elses fault. We have Fathers walking away from their kids and now Mothers doing the same not even for one minite thinking about what they are doing to them.
I've seen this first hand. I know a 37-38 year old women married with to kids. the 12 year old boy by an first marriage and daughter by this husband, who treats this kid like his own. Will it seems she got to looking for an old high school boy frend on the internet, and found him just up and leaves, telling her husband and kids she has to go see her father because he's no doing well. Now the kids are being torn apart. The boy is losing his home, sister, friends, school, as his real father lives in an other state. I can not even to begin to amagine how these to kids feel.

This hits my family (with my ex-wife) so close - makes me cry sometimes thinking of what my kids go through being more than 300 miles away from them. [V] SIGH

This really hits home for me. I will share something very few know with you all. My middle and youngest don't even know it until we feel it's time for them to understand it. My oldest daughter is 17 and I am 33. Do the math right and yes I was a junior in high school. Her birth mother decided she did not want her. I was scared and finally had to tell my parents when she was 3 days old. I decided on my own without being pushed that what was mine was mine and I was keeping her. In the mean time she had already been adopted out. I (with my parents) spent the next 3 weeks in court making this happen. Yes I felt sorry for the other people, but she was still mine and the adoption was deemed invalid due to being named the father on the birth certificate and not signing adoption papers. I ended up moving to another town afterwards becasue all of a sudden I couldn't even find a friend. I met my wife there and after awhile I filled her in on my secret. She accepted me and my daugther and we married the day after high school.

To this day my daughter has never met the other woman. She says she doesn't want to because that is not her mother. It's upsetting to me to know that she does have questions, but don't ask because I am not the most approacable kind of guy I guess. I have struggled for years financially and emotionally due to decisions in my past. I wouldn't change it for a thing. I am uneducated due to having to go to work right out of high school to support a family and work shift work just to survive. I don't ask for sympathy I just wanted to share something related to OP's topic. Honestly it does me good to talk about it. My daughter I know without her saying has suffered as well.

Cowchaser, you've given your daughter something that can never be measured in money. Someday she'll understand, and you'll be repaid in ways that can never be measured in money.

I couldn't agree more!!!!

I will second that Becca!

The problem is that nobody is expected to be held acountable. We fill thier heads full of all kinds of garbage and then we act supprised when something goes astray? We tell them that you don't have a choice, that woman (girl) you see and you just "have a spark for" can not be fought, it was meant to be. I say baloney! They do have a choice and sometimes need to be made to face it! (Mid-rant apologies, if I go long here as I am sure to do.) ;)

Here in the northeast we have the state of Maine giving birth control pills to 12 year olds, but are shocked to no end if that FDLS "Church" in Texas has 14 year olds getting married some of the men have more than one wife. How dang hypocritical can we be here! We glorify our ladies who sleep with any many men as like, yet teach our children that it's just fine... "Here, take these and if the pills and condoms fail, we can help you out even more!!!" :( (PS, don't you worry.. we won't tell your mommie and daddy about that little thing.)

Make bad choices and run your credit cards to the max, fake your income on a loan payment and buy that $500,000 home and the two new cars? Sure no problem it's not your fault, why we will just get the goverment involved and make them not take the house you can not afford. Why just maybe we will set up judges to settle a new contract for you and the state can decide what your home is really worth. ***

Work for a living?? No way!! Americans just "wont do" some of those jobs, you need to start right off in middle management. Why should you, a 18 year-old high school graduate, have to start life off just scraping by? You are entitled to buy that new house and get a car loan on the way home from getting that nice roll of paper to hang on your wall. Why heck, you earned it! Sure, you can't figure out the tax on a $20.00 bill, but hey! You are ready for management now!

Family?? What is family anyway? Mom and Dad can just as easy be Mom alone, Dad alone.. Awh heck.. I won't even go deeper in there this time! But as we tear down these simple basics and say that EVERYTHING is good and perfect, are we to expect any less?

OK.. I have to stop here or my head will explode and I am out of duct tape to wrap my head in so the ER can glue my skull back togather with all the chunks..

*** Just to point out here, we are hit just as hard by this as many others. I am not in the "higher end" of pay scales, my wife is a stay at home Mom, we home school, and we do live in our own home. We moved about 4 years ago and still paid a decent chunk for this house. Keeping in mind that Connecticut is not the cheapest state to live in. I do not want to sound like the "YOU" are so bad with your money, "YOU" should of known better. Prices of stuff are killing us here, but I do not feel that anyone "owes me" to fix it.

Well said.

I could rant, and cry for that matter, about all sorts of things like this in my family. I have a very close family member who is married to a perv husband that has requested her to do things that would make Larry Flint shameful, and their children are always torn between mom and dad. They have, also, a toddler boy. When the boy outgrows his clothes, they suddenly disappear from the house before the mom ever notices. She suspects that he's got another secret family somewhere else. She and her perv hubby are children of boomers.

People rant and rave about the economy, but ask yourself why the older GI generation (the WWII era) did not have this problem-- partly because they suffered the depression. And they knew how to spend sparingly. The Boomer generation lived in a powerful and swiftly growing economy and so many of them made more money than they had sense, and now their kids are raising idiots. I see it every day. Whenever I see some teenager driving around in a Hummer or sports car with huge chrome rims and 500 decibel subwoofers, I want to go and whiz in their driver's seat and tell them "welcome to earth, punk". :(

Of course, then I have to repent.:D

Excellently put! We, too, home school and mom stays at home.
I am a machinist and no college. Also learned to earn my stuff, for the most part. My sons got upset that I wouldn't buy them a car. I bought a $400 four door for them to use. 'Dad, that's ugly!'. You can always walk. Split the insurance with them if they where working and making a decent effort on grades. When they saved for their own, I sold that car and put the $ back in my pocket!

I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only tyrant like that, Paul. I did exactly the same thing. I bought them a cheap car, but made sure it was mechanically sound. But they had to pay the insurance unless they were in athletics, or involved with something worthwile that kept them from working. And we didn't pay for any of them to go to school either. With 5 and LOML staying home until they got well into grade school, we couldn't afford to send the oldest to school. So I told them from grade school age (they saw me get my education at this time) how important it was to get an education and if they wanted one they'd have to work for it (like their mom and I) or do well enough in school to get academic ro athletic scholarships. Our oldest two (both girls) did just that and the youngest daughter is going now. The two boys decided the military was best for them at the time so we'll see. But when they were in school we helped them when and where needed concerning a vehicle, but they still had to pay the insurance. It has been my experience that kids who have everything they want given to them don't seem to appreciate anything. And that's just sad. Yes, it's tough, but so is life. And paretns don't teach that to their children, this cruel world will do so in a very quick and nukind way.;)

Just call me ol' arn arse!:)

I see the results of this New Moral Standard every day, I find it hard to comprehend how this type parent can exist.
I've been teaching what are supposed to be young and not so young adults, a trade, and how to coexist in a workplace, I'm 65 and seen alot of not so nice stuff in my life, but some of the human detritus, not so much in our class but I hear comments from students in other classes with children that almost make me gag.
But there still might be hope for todays young parents, with out resorting to selling Crack,Weed, or Meth in order to slide by. God I hope there is
