Your new mania

Jared,
You have obviously been stricken with a new mania for musical instruments, with an emphasis on exotic wood types!!

Son, this condition is even worse on the pocketbook than pen turning. I suggest you seek counseling immediately, or your bank account (or your dad's...) will never recover in time for your college tuition!!

Jared, I have a couple guitars that I can't play any more, but that 500.00 for the Strat is a decent price, they usually run about 650.00 to 800.00 depending on the shape, Don't confuse the Fender Squire Stratocasters with the Fender American Strats, They look the same but that's where it ends, First the guitars then the beer then the band then the girls then the poor house, I know of what I speak!!!!!!

Jared,

Guitars and pens...That's what I'm all about, too. Actually, I am an amp builder as my other side business but I do have a bit of a guitar collection. All I can say about buying anything off E-bay is be careful. Personally, I feel guitars bought sight unseen is a real crap shoot. Each one has it's own character and buying one that "doesn't speak to you" is a waste of time and money even if it is for a good price.

Also, don't get your heart set on getting any of those highly figured necks for $50 unless they are hopelessly twisted.

You ought to start with a good used one you can lay your hands on. Try a pawn shop. Boy, sounds like you are becomming a REAL Texan. Gittin one of them there git-fiddles. Got that 10 gal. hat & them shi@-kickin boots yet? 10 gal [gallon] Jared not girls. Funny thing, young man. I was thinking of you a little earlier & was wondering how the heck you're a doin. Sounds like you're fitting in pretty good. Knew ya would. Hope you're enjoying you're new life & keep the grades up. That's #1. Hope you get the hang of the guitar as good as you did the pens. Good luck to ya.

Jared,

You might want to send a private message to our very own Anthony Turchetta - penworks. Anthony's brother makes a sells custom handmade guitars. He might be able to point you in the right direction for purchasing materials to build your own guitar, and may also be able to direct you to a good learning source for guitar building.

Also, the owner of Grizzly is an avid guitar builder, and there are guitar building kits, and many other listing realted to guitar building on their web site.

I have always wanted to learn to play, but never found the time. Maybe ina few years when I retire, i can start to learn? I prefer acoustic for playing, but I still enjoy rock and roll too!!!

Good Luck,
Dan

I've gotten bit by the instrument bug, too. I'm researching and planning a build of a bass guitar. purple heart, bloodwood and prolly cherry(perhaps curly). that's why I haven't been here often

I'm not planning on buying any of that fancy wood yet. Some of the guys in our church band said they wood buy a guitar off of me when I got good enough. I'll have to talk to Anthony's bro.

I don't mind public school too much. (At least there's girls.):biggrin:

Anyways I can't catch up to that Algebra crap.

Otherwise,I LOVE Texas. It's an awesome place to be. We live in a gated community called De Cordova in Granbury,TX and it has a golf driving range about 200 feet from our house and a 18 hole golf course about 1 mile from our house.

Texas Rules!:cowboy:

Here are a couple of my home builds. One is an all mahogany strat and the other is an ash tele. Building bodies is easy... IF.... you have the templates. Nice necks can be ordered from various vendors such as Warmoth and USAcustom guitars.

BTW as you can see I'm a lefty. Oh, and here are a couple of my amps from a recent show.
