When I am telling someone about a pen and say "It's made from Poly Resin", and then they say "Poly Resin? What's that?"

Then I say ??????????

I don't want to say it's a plastic (even though it is).

What do you say?

It's a man made molecular product that can be produced in various colors and styles.

Mont Blanc has gotten away with calling it "deep black precious resin" since 1906. Seems to have worked out OK for them!

Andy is right, and I've told my customers I use the same precious resin. Then add that the Mont Blanc pen is a "Mercedes" of pens but like "Mercedes" it's mass produced, your now holding the "Buggatti" of pens all mine or hand made one at a time of the fineist componets. Gets them thinking all the time...Heres a link to Mont Blanc showing a ver high end pen calling it "Black presious resin".
