Hi All,
I washed another pen. Went through the washer and dryer. The ink is all over inside the pen. My question is, what will take it out of the mechanism of the pen itself? Out of the transmission and from inside the tubes? Can I soak it in something, paint thinner etc?

Hi,

Antony (Penworks) has something called INK NIX or the world best ink remover. Don't know if it would work for what you need it for, you might ask him.

He has something in the business classified section

If is was a fountain pen just use water. If it was a ball point pen when you will need something to remove grease. What Anthoney sells (INK NIX) if I am correct will remove Fountain Pen and Roller Ball ink only.

Steve I was reasonably successful with Polyclens , but I imagine any odorless paint thinner would do the job . Should have minimal affect on a CA finish , although don`t think I would soak it for too long . Wayne

Actually, it's a shell casing pen, so paint thinner shouldn't hurt anything. The top is antler. The ink is everywhere inside. I pull the pen apart and the whole top of the refill and transmission is covered in ink. Evidently the refill just let loose and flowed everywhere. Thank God it didn't release in the washer. She would have my ass.
Thanks for the input, if any more of you have any ideas, please let me know. I have a second pen with the same problem. I started a new job where I carry a pen and keep forgetting to take them out of the pocket of my trousers. I ware Dickie's at work and slip the pens in the little tool pocket on the right leg.
The other pen is a gift from a Friend and I would really like to save it.
Thanks all.

Steve, if you are just cleaning the inside, use a q-tip and acetone. You can try to soak the transmission in one of those pen part bags and soak it for a bit followed by spraying with WD-40. I assume this is a cigar, right?
