Yup, they float. When I cast something like beans, I place a block of UHMW on top and weigh it down.

If you want to see my setup, I live 20 minutes from you. I doubt you'll find his screen, so I came up with something for $1.97.
Layers, IMO, are not the way to go. Come over, I'd be happy to show you what I've found to be the best way.
